Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found multiple other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for information.
A high-ranking political figure commented the incident left him without words and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
